The Legionnaires' Standard Legionella Thermometer Kit contains essential equipment for monitoring water supply temperatures to prevent legionella growth.
Each Legionnaires' Standard Legionella Thermometer Kit contains the following:

  • 1 Therma 1 Thermometer (221-041)
  • 1 Waterproof Surface Probe (323-046)
  • 1 Heavy Duty PTFE Wire Probe (133-372)
  • 1 Zip Pouch (830-037)

Therma 1 legionella thermometer

The legionnaires' test kit includes a robust, easy-to-use Therma water temperature thermometer. Featuring a wide temperature range of -100 to 1370 °C, the Therma 1 legionnaires' thermometer is compatible with any of our type K thermocouple probes. The Therma 1 has a minimum of five years of battery life and features an auto power-off function to reduce battery usage. In addition, the hold function makes recording temperatures easy.

Essential legionella testing kit

The standard legionnaires' test kit features two different probes for monitoring the temperature of standing water and water system surfaces. The Ribbon Surface Temperature Probe can be used to measure pipe and tank surfaces and tap water temperatures, and the Wire Probe is ideal for hard-to-reach areas.

The legionella testing kit comes safely stored inside a zip pouch, making it easy to transport everything you need to different water outlets.

A FREE traceable calibration certificate is also included so that you can be confident in the accuracy of your tests.

Incorrect water temperature is a key risk factor for Legionella growth. The Legionella bacteria multiply in water at temperatures between 20 to 45 °C, particularly if a supply of nutrients is present, such as scale, rust, sludge or algae.

A typical method of control is to store cold water below 20 °C. Hot water should be stored above 60 °C and distributed at above 50 °C. Regular testing using a legionella thermometer helps control legionella risks.

Current legislation means that you must organise a risk assessment if you are an employer or person in control of premises. The revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) issued by the Government's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) significantly extends the scope of its guidance on controlling legionella bacteria in water.

The code now applies to all workplace hot and cold water systems regardless of their capacity; the lower limit of 300 litres previously used to exclude domestic systems no longer applies. Whilst domestic systems may represent a risk, the code only applies to risk arising from work activity.

This means all employers managing premises with hot/cold water systems or wet cooling systems are legally responsible for identifying contamination risks and preventing or controlling them.
