Accurate, durable thermocouples and infrared thermometers, moisture meters, and humidity meters for fast, reliable construction checks.

Construction sites must adhere to watertight health and safety standards. If building materials are not stored and managed properly, they can lead to moisture infiltration, which can affect performance and create hazardous conditions.

ETI’s range of moisture and damp meters is designed to monitor timber and other building materials, alerting building and trade professionals when moisture levels require remedial action. We also have a range of therma-hygrometers which monitor temperature and humidity, and robust thermocouple thermometers for measuring surface and core temperatures.

Why Construction Monitoring Matters

Helps assess material quality

Moisture meters help detect hidden damp in materials which can lead to rot in wood, corrosion in metal fixings, and poor adhesion for paints, sealants and flooring.

Ensures correct drying time

High humidity can slow the drying of plaster, screeds, and paints, while also increasing the risk of mould growth and trapped moisture. Monitoring humidity helps ensure materials cure and settle properly.

Supports precise installation conditions

Thermometers help ensure materials are used within the correct temperature range. Being too hot or too cold can affect curing, bonding, and long-term performance.

Moisture Meter Kit for Craftsman & Professional Use

What Are You Measuring?

Moisture in materials

Prevent hidden damp issues before they become expensive problems.

You’ll need:

A moisture meter
Specialised probes for reaching deeper into wood or walls

Surface temperatures

Make sure materials are within safe working limits.

You’ll need:

An infrared thermometer for areas that are hot or hard to reach
A surface probe for more accurate surface checks

Ambient temperature & humidity

Keep buildings and storage rooms at the correct levels.

You’ll need:

Handheld humidity meters for precise spot-checks
Wall-mounted Therma-hygrometers for continual monitoring

Core Temperatures

Check the internal temperature of materials.

You’ll need:

A robust type K thermocouple thermometer
A suitable penetration probe (i.e. high temperature, waterproof)

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best moisture meter for wood?

The best pin-type moisture meter for wood is the ETI 7000. It has a high ±1% moisture accuracy and features interchangeable probes for maintaining accuracy over time.

It’s also compatible with the ETI Hammer Probe for reaching deeper into thicker and denser woods.

How to use a moisture meter?

Read our step-by-step moisture meter guide to learn how to use ETI damp testers.

What’s the difference between pin and pinless moisture meters?

Pin meters measure moisture internally using probes inserted into the material. Pinless meters scan the surface without causing damage, making them ideal for quick checks and finished surfaces.

Read our pin vs pinless guide to learn more.

Do moisture meters need calibration?

Yes, regular checks and calibration help ensure readings remain accurate over time. This is especially important in professional and industrial applications.

You can send your moisture meter to us for 3-point traceable recalibration at our UK laboratory. Learn more about our calibration services.

What is a hygrometer?

A hygrometer is a device used to measure the amount of moisture in the air, usually expressed as relative humidity (%RH).

It helps monitor and control environmental conditions in settings such as homes, kitchens, warehouses, museums, and industrial processes, where humidity can affect comfort, product quality, and safety.

How to choose an industrial thermometer?

When selecting a thermometer for your industrial application, some common features to consider are:

Waterproofness — protection from water and dust
Range — the highest and lowest temperatures required
Accuracy — the potential margin for error
Hold — locking readings on-screen for easy recording
Max/min — the maximum and minimum temperatures over a period
