What is a UKAS-Accredited Laboratory?
A UKAS-accredited laboratory is a testing or calibration facility that has been independently assessed and approved by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
This accreditation confirms the laboratory is technically competent, properly controlled, and producing reliable, traceable results.

Our calibration laboratory is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 17025 standard, covering a wide range of temperature, humidity, and electrical calibration capabilities.

Does ETI offer bespoke UKAS calibration services?
Yes, our experienced professionals provide bespoke calibration services and UKAS certification for all thermometers and probes, not just our own. Tell us what you need certifying, and we will deliver.
What does ETI do to maintain UKAS-accreditation?
Critical equipment is routinely checked in-house using international standards, such as gallium, triple of water, and other fixed cells, to ensure its reliability, with equipment of greater importance checked more frequently.
There are also auditing and training exercises to ensure adherence to the laboratory standard (17025:2017).
Everything is clearly documented to show how and when this maintenance occurs.
What laboratory enhancements has ETI invested in?
We have invested in a large number of temperature baths, which allow us to maintain fast turnaround times whilst providing the flexibility to carry out calibrations at points outside the standard five.
We have also worked to reduce measurement uncertainty in our lower temperature ranges (down to -80 °C) to ensure high precision for cold applications.
How does UKAS-accreditation add value?
UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation is the single most important standard for calibration and testing laboratories worldwide. Being an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory demonstrates that we are technically proficient and able to produce precise and accurate test and calibration data.
This enhances research and development when creating and producing a new product, enabling us to achieve accurate, consistent production-level calibrations for every single thermometer produced by ETI.
What does traceability mean?
When a thermometer undergoes calibration, its readings are checked against a reference thermometer. The reference thermometer must already have undergone a calibration test using an even higher standard than the one currently being used.
Every time a device undergoes a calibration test using a thermometer calibrated to a higher standard, it forms a chain. When this chain is unbroken and leads back to the highest-level reference thermometer in a national calibration centre (or equivalent), it becomes traceable.
What’s the difference between traceable and UKAS certificates?
A traceable certificate means that your thermometer has been tested against a reference thermometer within the traceability chain. This is often satisfactory for EHOs and other inspectors who may want to check your calibration procedures during visits.
A UKAS certificate means that your thermometer has been tested in a UKAS-accredited laboratory. This will give you additional peace of mind that your thermometer has been calibrated using the highest standards within the UK.
