Calibration Guide

Frequently asked questions

How often should I calibrate my instruments?

How often you get your thermometers or humidity meters calibrated depends on how precise your application is, how often you use them, what you use them for, and any relevant regulatory guidelines.

Generally, you should check the accuracy of your instruments once a month and get them recalibrated a few times a year.

Do you offer bespoke calibration?

Yes, contact us to discuss your bespoke calibration needs.

Do you calibrate instruments made by other brands?

Yes, you can send instruments by any brand to us for recalibration, not just ones made by ETI.

What is UKAS calibration?

UKAS calibration means your thermometer has been tested and certified in a laboratory accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). It provides official certification that equipment meets national and international standards.

Learn more about our UKAS laboratory.

Can I calibrate my instruments myself?

You can check the accuracy of your thermometers yourself. However, if the accuracy needs to be adjusted, you’ll usually have to send the thermometer to a laboratory for professional recalibration.

If you have a thermometer with a CalCheck function, you can make accuracy adjustments yourself. However, unlike professional calibration, you won’t have a certificate to prove your thermometer is accurate.

Shop calibration equipment to check your thermometer's accuracy.

What Measurement Capabilities (CMC) Does ETI Offer?

We offer high measurement capabilities, from ±0.06 °C to ±0.42 °C for thermometers and ±0.2 to ±1.1 %rh for humidity meters.

View our full CMC table on our UKAS laboratory page.

Do I need to send separate instruments and probes for calibration together?

Yes, in most cases, we recommend sending both your instrument and probe together for calibration. This ensures they are tested as a complete system. If only one part is calibrated, the overall reading may still be inaccurate, as both components can influence the final measurement.
