The Thermapen IR Air is two instruments in one compact unit, combining the advanced technology of two ETI-designed and manufactured products, the RayTemp 2 Plus infrared thermometer and Thermapen digital air probe thermometer. The fast response air probe is an invaluable tool in establishing the correct air temperature quickly in HVAC, laboratory applications and other temperature-sensitive working areas

Housed in a robust ABS case containing Biomaster product protection, which reduces bacterial growth, the Thermapen IR Air incorporates a motion-sensing sleep mode (air probe only) which automatically turns the instrument on/off when set down or picked up, maximising battery life.

Infrared Thermometer
Simply aim the infrared thermometer at the target and press the scan button to display the surface temperature. Please Note: the infrared non-contact function will only measure when the probe is in the closed position.

The Thermapen IR Air thermometer incorporates a max/min temperature function accessed via the mode button (IR only). The distance to target ratio is 5:1, therefore, the thermometer should be positioned as close to the target as possible. The default emissivity is 0.95 but can be adjusted between 0.1 and 1.0, if required, via the mode button.

Air Probe
The fast response air probe has been designed to be used in HVAC, laboratory applications and other temperature-sensitive working areas. The probe conveniently folds back through 180° into the side of the instrument when not in use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Thermapen IR Air used for?

The Thermapen IR Air is a professional infrared and air thermometer in one compact instrument. It can measure surface temperatures without contact using infrared technology, while the folding probe measures air temperature. It is ideal for HVAC, laboratories and other temperature-sensitive working environments.

What is the difference between the infrared sensor and air probe?

The infrared sensor measures surface temperature without contact, making it useful for quickly scanning equipment, vents and other surfaces. The folding air probe measures the temperature of the surrounding air, providing a direct air temperature reading. Combining both functions in one instrument makes it easy to compare surface and ambient temperatures.

Is the Thermapen IR Air suitable for HVAC temperature checks?

Yes. The Thermapen IR Air is designed for HVAC and professional temperature monitoring applications. The fast-response folding probe can be used to measure air temperature, while the infrared function enables quick, non-contact surface temperature checks using the same instrument.

What temperature range does the Thermapen IR Air measure?

The infrared function measures surface temperatures from -49.9 to 349.9 °C, while the folding air probe has a measurement range of -49.9 to 299.9 °C. This wide range makes the instrument suitable for a variety of professional temperature monitoring applications.

How accurate is the Thermapen IR Air?

The infrared thermometer is accurate to ±1 °C between 0 and 100 °C, and ±2 °C or ±2% of the reading outside this range, whichever is greater. The air probe has an accuracy of ±0.4 °C between -49.9 and 199.9 °C, and ±1 °C outside this range.

What is emissivity and can it be adjusted on the Thermapen IR Air?

Emissivity describes how effectively a surface emits infrared energy and can affect the accuracy of infrared temperature measurements. The Thermapen IR Air has a default emissivity setting of 0.95, which can be adjusted from 0.1 to 1.0 to suit different surface materials.

How close should the Thermapen IR Air be to the surface being measured?

The Thermapen IR Air has a 5:1 distance-to-target ratio. This means that as the distance from the surface increases, the area being measured also becomes larger. For the most accurate surface temperature measurement, position the thermometer as close to the target as practical.

Does the Thermapen IR Air come with a calibration certificate?

Yes. The Thermapen IR Air is supplied with a free traceable calibration certificate for both the infrared function and air probe. Additional calibration options are also available for businesses that require documented temperature measurement accuracy as part of their quality or compliance procedures.
