Infrared features

The Thermapen IR Blue Bluetooth infrared thermometer with probe has a target ratio of 5:1, so the thermometer should be positioned as close to the target as possible for accurate readings. The default emissivity is 0.95, but it can be adjusted between 0.1 and 1.0.

Probe features

Complete fast and reliable health and safety checks with the Thermapen Bluetooth infrared thermometer. With a high accuracy of ±0.4 °C, the Thermapen IR Blue will measure internal temperatures in just three seconds. It is also provided with a FREE traceable calibration certificate so you can be confident in the accuracy of your readings.

The thermometer features a patented, automatic 360° rotational display together with a motion-sensing sleep mode when the penetration probe is left open. This automatically turns the instrument on/off when set down or picked up, maximising battery life.

Custom software available

A Software Developer Kit (SDK) is available upon request to allow integrators to write custom apps to communicate with the Thermapen IR Blue.

Please Note: New display features are only available when using the latest Software Development Kit. BLE 5.0 thermometers have a range of 50 metres depending on the user's smart device make and model. Environmental conditions may also affect the signal strength.

What is the difference between the infrared sensor and the penetration probe?

The Thermapen IR Blue is a versatile two-in-one instrument. The built-in infrared sensor allows you to safely measure surface temperatures from a distance without touching the food, which is ideal for checking hot plates, pizza ovens, or incoming deliveries. Alternatively, the folding penetration probe is used to measure the precise internal core temperature of cooked meats or chilled goods. You can seamlessly switch between the two methods.

How does the Bluetooth feature improve daily HACCP checks?

By utilising Bluetooth, the Thermapen IR Blue wirelessly transmits your temperature readings directly to a smartphone or tablet up to 50 metres away. This removes the need for handwritten paper logs. How close should the Thermapen® IR be to the surface being measured?

The Thermapen® IR has a 5:1 distance-to-target ratio, meaning the area being measured becomes larger as you move further away from the target. For the most accurate infrared readings, position the thermometer as close to the surface as practical.
