The Black Body Temperature Probe is designed to measure the effective ambient temperature of an environment by utilising the principles of a black body radiation. By absorbing radiant energy from its surroundings, the probe provides a more representative indication of environmental temperature than a conventional air temperature sensor.

The probe is ideal for applications where radiant heat forms a significant part of the thermal environment, including industrial ovens, food processing equipment, power generation facilities, environmental monitoring, and hypothermia warning systems.

The sensing Type K thermocouple is housed within a copper sphere approximately 50 mm in diameter. The external surface of the sphere is finished in a matt black coating to maximise the absorption of incident radiant energy, while the internal surface is bright copper to minimise internal radiation losses. The thermocouple probe is supplied with a 2-metre length of glass fibre insulated thermocouple cable with stainless steel overbraid for enhanced mechanical protection and temperature resistance. The cable is terminated with a miniature Type K thermocouple plug.
